My Background

My name is Ronan Bennett, and I am a 17-year-old senior at Stevenson School in Pebble Beach. I am a descendent of Jung San Choy, one of the early Chinese settlers on the Monterey Peninsula. I have long been intrigued by my family's early roots in California and since I go to school so close to the location where my great-great-great grandfather, Jung San Choy, settled in 1868, I decided to turn my interest into a living website where I can explore the history, the struggles, the successes, and the impact of this early pioneer on the Monterey Bay area, and California in general. I plan to continue to add to this website as I learn more and talk to more people, including family members, community members, and historians, about this important piece of California history. Additionally, I will investigate how the history of Jung San Choy and his family has impacted and shaped the lives and experiences of subsequent generations of my family.
